Wheel alignment describes the relationship between your wheels, your suspension geometry, and the road. It isn't a single adjustment — it's a set of measurements that, together, determine how your vehicle tracks, steers and wears its tires.

Our shop uses Hunter alignment equipment to take computerized measurements of your vehicle's current alignment and compare it against the manufacturer's specification. That level of precision means adjustments are based on real numbers rather than estimation.

Alignment is typically described through three measurements. Toe describes whether your wheels point slightly inward or outward when viewed from above — incorrect toe is a common cause of rapid, uneven tire wear. Camber describes the inward or outward tilt of a wheel viewed from the front; excessive camber wears one edge of the tire faster than the other. Caster relates to the steering-axis angle and influences how your steering feels and how readily it returns to centre after a turn. Which of these can actually be adjusted depends on your specific vehicle's suspension design.

Consider booking an alignment check if your vehicle pulls to one side on a flat, straight road, your steering wheel isn't centred when driving straight, your tires are wearing unevenly, your steering feels different than it used to, you've recently had suspension or steering work done, or you've just installed new tires.

Poor alignment causes tires to scrub against the road instead of rolling evenly across it, and over time that shows up as wear that's uneven from one side of the tread to the other — or uneven between tires on the same axle. Left unaddressed, it shortens the life of an otherwise good set of tires.

Installing a new set of tires is one of the best times to check alignment. If an existing alignment issue is still present, a brand-new set of tires can start showing uneven wear within weeks — which is why tire condition and alignment are closely linked services rather than separate concerns.

Any repair that touches your steering or suspension components has the potential to change your vehicle's alignment. Checking alignment after that kind of work helps confirm everything is set up the way it should be before you're back on the road full-time.

Your vehicle goes onto the Hunter alignment rack, where sensors take a full set of current measurements — toe, camber and caster where applicable — and compare them against your manufacturer's specification. We make the adjustments your vehicle's suspension design allows for and check the results before you leave. If a measurement is outside spec but can't be corrected through a standard alignment — because of worn suspension components, for example — we'll tell you that directly rather than forcing an adjustment that won't hold.

Hitting a significant pothole or curb can knock a vehicle's alignment out even if nothing looks visibly damaged. If you've recently hit something harder than usual and have since noticed a pull or vibration, it's a reasonable time to have your alignment checked, even outside of a scheduled tire or suspension appointment.

There's no fixed calendar interval that applies to every vehicle, but many drivers find it useful to check alignment roughly once a year, or any time one of the warning signs above shows up — whichever comes first.

It's a common assumption that alignment and balancing are the same service. They're not: balancing addresses weight distribution around a tire and wheel to reduce vibration, while alignment addresses the angles and geometry of the suspension itself. A vehicle can need one without the other, which is why we check for both rather than assuming a single fix covers everything.
